Port Augusta is situated three hundred (300) kilometres
north of Adelaide at the head of the Spencer Gulf, surrounded by outstanding
landforms, including the spectacular Flinders Ranges to the east. With a
population exceeding 15,000 people, Port Augusta offers all the services and
conveniences of a modern regional city
As the “Crossroads of Australia” Port Augusta has a
variety of shopping facilities available. The opening hours for
Supermarkets, Woolworths and Coles, are from 7 am – 10 pm daily with a
variety of small businesses and specialists stores open between 9 am – 5.30
pm (Monday – Friday). Late night shopping is available on Thursdays.
Essential services include a modern hospital (with
visiting specialists), 24-hour police station, local TAFE College and
excellent schools, including one private facility. Airlines of South
Australia, Premier Stateliner Coachlines and Great Southern Railways all
provide transport services to/from the city of Port Augusta. Within the
township itself a local bus service, hire cars and taxi services provide
public transport facilities.
A variety of entertainment and sports facilities are
available at Port Augusta including a cinema, swimming pool, gymnasium and
fitness centres. Port Augusta has a strong participation in sports and has a

Tourism plays a major part in employment in Port Augusta
with a number of nationally acclaimed tourist attractions. Wadlata, School
of the Air, Royal Flying Doctor Service, Arid Lands Botanic Gardens and the
Homestead Park Pioneer Museum are all based in Port Augusta with the famous
Pichi Richi Railways, Spear Creek Tourism and Training Centre and numerous
other attractions located in the surrounding regions.
Accommodation ranging from backpacker’s hostels, caravan
parks, hotels/motels to self contained units, flats and rental houses are
available to suit short and long term requirements. Housing through the
South Australian Housing Trust and the private market is available for rent,
lease or purchase at reasonable prices in Port Augusta.
Daytime temperature ranges from approximately 450C
in summer to 150C in winter. During the summer months the local
beaches and swimming pool are well utilised for family type activities with
many events planned throughout the year on the traditional values of good
clean fun.
Port Augusta is ideally located to provide easy access to
a variety of services and products. Near to the rural outback but within
travelling distance to other major population centres of South Australia,
