Rotary Club Of Port Augusta

Back

Although perhaps not as dramatic as the previous year, the Community Committee still had a fairly active and generally profitable year.

September 8 - the first clean-up of our stretch of the hi-way on the Westside from the Whyalla Road intersection to the Yorkey's Crossing turnoff, followed by a BBQ at Rotary Park.

October 6 - members assisted at the Dirt Circuit Car Racing State Titles, in appalling conditions, and earned $75 for Hope for the Children.
October 19 - members assisted Jerry Doran move a tank, earning a further $100.
October 26 - working bee held at Rotary Park (thanks to John Marsh for being our liaison person for this ongoing project).

December 6 - Christmas Pageant was successfully run again, with funds raised for future expenses from stall fees and wheelbarrows, and income for the club from sales of hamburgers during the pageant and do-nuts for the Mayoral party afterwards.
December 11 - members assisted with serving drinks at the launch of the Social Vision Unit, for a donation to the club.
December 15 - Carols by Candlelight saw members selling soft drinks and do-nuts. After our donation of $200 to the organisers, a profit was made for the club.

January 26 - the traditional Australia Day Breakfast was organised.

February 27 - some members assisted the Social Vision Unit at their Welcome to Port Augusta function.

March 2 - the usual Clean-Up Australia Day effort on the stretch of the hi-way.

April 12 - further working bee at Rotary Park.

May 3 - David Baker organised members to assist in re-roofing the Scout Hall.
May 6 - Club catered for the Veteran Car Club visit at the race-course.

Ongoing community projects include:

  • Tour guides for visiting tourist buses (with many thanks to John Moss).
  • Club representation at Emergency Management Meetings at FAYS.
  • We again sold RDU goods at the District Conference and Assembly, proceeds to Polio Plus.

Donations recommended by our committee include:
  • Further 500 Emergency Medical Booklets.
  • ½ tonne of rice to Foodbank.
  • Equipment for the Bush Mechanics Project.

My sincerest thanks to the members of my committee and the Club membership as a whole for the excellent support given to all of these projects,
